The weeks following birth are among the most transformative in a woman's life. Yet in modern society, many mothers are expected to recover quickly, navigate new parenthood, and care for everyone around them whilst receiving very little support themselves.

At Glow Somatics, we offer nurturing postpartum doula services inspired by traditional Asian postpartum care practices, where the mother is considered the heart of the family and her recovery is treated with the utmost importance.

Rooted in the wisdom of the "Sitting Month" tradition, our approach honours the first 30–42 days after birth as a sacred period of rest, healing, nourishment, and bonding. When a mother feels supported, rested, and cared for, the entire family benefits.

A Different Approach to Postpartum Care

Across many Asian cultures, the postpartum period is viewed as a crucial window for long-term health and wellbeing.

Traditionally, new mothers spend several weeks focused solely on healing, feeding their baby, and receiving practical and emotional support from those around them. Meals are prepared, household tasks are managed, and the mother is encouraged to rest deeply while her body recovers from pregnancy and birth.

At Glow Somatics, we bring elements of this wisdom into modern London life.

Our role is not to replace medical care, but to provide compassionate, practical, and holistic support during the early weeks of motherhood.

Meet Julia

Julia Tobin is a holistic therapist, somatic practitioner, and qualified Yin Yoga teacher with a lifelong passion for nurturing care.

Her professional background includes working with families as a nanny and educator across England, Spain, Hong Kong, Russia, and the United States, supporting children from infancy through early childhood.

Alongside her childcare experience, Julia has spent over a decade studying holistic wellbeing, including:

  • Somatic practices and nervous system regulation

  • Yin Yoga

  • Meditation and mindfulness

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine principles

  • Holistic beauty and wellness therapies

  • Attachment-focused caregiving

Her philosophy is simple:

When mothers are cared for, babies thrive.

Julia believes postpartum support should extend beyond practical assistance to include emotional presence, nervous system regulation, nourishment, rest, and gentle encouragement during one of life's most important transitions.

Julia's approach is deeply influenced by attachment theory and responsive caregiving principles. Rather than rigid schedules or sleep training philosophies, she supports families in developing confidence in their own instincts and creating secure bonds with their baby.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is helping both mother and baby feel safe, connected, and supported.
